The president hasn't changed his mind: "I'm available." And he passes the ball to Elly Schlein. The tug-of-war with the Democratic MEP continues, who continues to waver: "Today I chair the most important committee in Europe."

The ball is in Elly Schlein's court. " My candidacy will be decided by the Democratic Party," Michele Emiliano told Il Foglio . The president of Puglia hasn't changed his mind, still considering a seat on the Regional Council, perhaps as president. "I'm available to run," he reiterated once again. The tug-of-war with Antonio Decaro, who continues to waver, continues. "I'm not a candidate. Today I chair the most important EU commission," the MEP said Monday while presenting his book in Bari. It's no secret that he doesn't want a cumbersome figure like Emiliano on the Council. Meanwhile, he's waiting for a signal from Secretary Schlein, who has other things to worry about for the moment.
Yet the local Democratic Party is beginning to show some impatience with Decaro's stalemate and procrastination. So much so that they're considering other candidates: Regional Council President Loredana Capone and Raffaele Piemontese, Emiliano's current deputy. These names, however, are considered weak, so in recent days the Puglia Democrats have also explored Francesco Boccia's availability (as has the AVS, which won't accept vetoes on Nichi Vendola, another candidate Decaro finds hard to stomach). Boccia wants to stay in Rome and is currently refusing to do so. But if everything goes wrong, Puglia officials explain, this option cannot be ruled out either.
